In Chapter 1 I remarked that you can’t worry about maturity levels when you are constantly living on the edge of crises. I’m sure you have found a few tricks and techniques since then that will help you back away from the edge and perhaps avoid it altogether. But there is more to measurement than querying defect databases and parsing timesheets into cost categories. There’s the human side of the numbers, which includes using measurement to improve the work environment as well as using information about your team’s behavior patterns to help interpret the data.
