Chapter 2. Characteristics of Good Requirements

Good requirements exhibit a known collection of characteristics both individually and as a set. We first discuss the desirable characteristics of individual requirements as well as those of a set of requirements. Additionally, we discuss the properties that a good set of requirements should possess to ensure that we communicate well with all readers of the requirements. We next discuss the use of a specific language for writing requirements to help reduce ambiguity and to help us manage a set of requirements effectively. Finally, we state the importance of effectively communicating the content of the requirement set.
