Time Slider is a tool that users can use to retrieve deleted, damaged, or previous versions of a file or directory. Time Slider has two parts: a front-end GUI in the Nautilus file manager and a back end managed by Service Management Facility (SMF). Time Slider is currently available on OpenSolaris.
You can enable and configure Time Slider snapshots using the Time Slider Setup GUI. In this chapter, I will show how to configure Time Slider only for home directories. The default configuration takes snapshots of all ZFS file systems.
The Time Slider schedule has five periodic snapshots (see Table 7.1). Each period has a different number of snapshots kept.
