tabs — Set Tabs on a Terminal

Synopsis

/usr/bin/tabs [-n | --file | [[-code] -a | -a2 | -c | -c2 | -c3 | 
  -f | -p | -s | -u]][+m[n]][-T type] 
/usr/bin/tabs [-T type][+m[n]] n1[,n2,...] 

Description

Use the tabs command to clear any previous settings and reset the Tab stops on your terminal according to a Tab specification. Your terminal must have remotely settable hardware Tabs.

Different terminals are inconsistent in how they clear Tabs and set the left margin.

tabs clears only 20 Tabs (on terminals requiring a long sequence) but it can set up to 64.

The syntax for setting tabs with the tabs command is slightly different from the one used with the newform command. For example, tabs -8 sets tabs at every eighth position, whereas newform ...
