whatis — Display a One-Line Summary About a Command

/usr/bin/whatis command...
Description
Some commands are listed in more than one section of the manual pages. You can find the section number(s) for a manual page with the whatis command. whatis looks up a given command and displays the header line from the manual section. You can then run the man(1) command to get more information. If the line starts name (section ) ..., you can type man -s section-number to view its documentation.
whatis is actually just the -f option to the man(1) command.
Note
whatis uses the /usr/share/man/windex database that you can create with the catman(1M) command. If the windex database does not exist, whatis fails. To use the catman(1M) command to set ...
