Some basic Solaris utilities can be used to troubleshoot DNS problems. This section shows how to deal with the most common problems.
The first place to look for DNS server error messages is /var/adm/messages. All errors relating to the DNS server are written to this file. The following extract shows that there is a configuration error in /etc/named.conf (normally a bracket or semi-colon has been omitted), and that the expiry time might need to be increased to at least 1 week, because it is currently less:
