In Chapter 3, "Creating Your First Part," your first model for the desktop lamp was the base. The part you modeled would be machined most likely using a milling machine. In a milling machine, a piece of metal or other hard material is held down on a plate that moves in linear directions along the x- and y-axes. A spindle holds various cutting tools that spin at a high rate, cutting into the material to create the features specified in the model or print.
