I am from the southeastern United States. My entire family is from that part of the country dating back several generations. This region is known for colorful stories and expressions, and my family was no exception. My parents and grandparents related everything to stories. In school, especially early in college, I discovered that I needed to learn to move beyond thinking in stories and instead make deductions based on logic and facts. I later learned, in trying to communicate my work to other people, that I could draw on my family’s storytelling background.
