Though Sony’s Super SteadyShot helps in low light, if you get into the art of available light photography or want to take a group portrait that includes you, you’ll need a tripod. Here’s another purchase that requires commitment, because tripods are also large and cumbersome—even some of the smaller ones. To complicate matters, there is a wide range of brands and types to choose from. For your first purchase, keep it simple, aim for quality, and choose a brand name.
