Absorption: When sound strikes a surface or medium that reduces the sound energy.

Active Loudspeaker: A speaker that has an internal amplifier.

Acoustics: From the Greek akouein meaning to hear. It is the science of sound wave behavior. It includes the generation, transmission and reception of sound.

ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement): ADR is the rerecording of the production track because of issues such as a noisy background, unwanted sounds or poor actor performance.

Ambience: Sounds such as backgrounds or atmospheres, which are the foundation sounds inherent in any environment.

Attack Time: The length of time it takes the compressor to start compressing once a signal has reached the threshold for it to start working.
