By the end of the sixteenth century, most of the modern Protestant denominations were established. That does not mean that there were no more changes. For example, the modern Lutheran church is divided into at least two factions: the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the more conservative Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Most of the other denominations that were introduced in the last chapter have also undergone transformations and splits in the last 400 years.
