Communication in sound
The main subject of this book is audio techniques. But – just how important is technique? Some of what follows is my personal view, but it seems clear that we do need to see technique in perspective.
It is essential that the mechanics of sound production should be seen in their true relationship to the full process of creation; that they should be given neither too much deference nor too little. Plainly I think technique is important, otherwise this book would not have been written. But technique is a means to an end, not an end in itself: and its major object must be to concentrate the audience’s attention on the content, and to do so in a particular way, with particular emphases.
