This is a book about sound synthesis and sampling. It is intended to provide a reference guide to the many techniques and approaches that are used in both commercial and research sound synthesizers. The coverage is more concerned with the underlying principles, so this is not a ‘build your own synthesizer’ type of book, nor is it a guide to producing specific synthesised sounds. Instead it aims to provide a solid source of information on the diverse and complex field of sound synthesis. As well as the details of the techniques of synthesis, some practical applications are described to show how synthesis can be used to make sounds.
