This book is divided into nine chapters, followed by References, Glossary, Jargon and finally, an Index. The Jargon section is designed to try and prevent the confusion that often results from the wide variation in the terminology which is used in the field of synthesizers. Each entry consists of the term which is used in this book, followed by the alternative names which can be used for that term.
The chapters can be divided into five major divisions:
• Background
• Techniques
• Applications
• Analysis
• Reference
Chapter 1 sets the background, and places synthesis in a historical perspective.
Chapters 2–5 describe the main methods of producing and manipulating sound.
