INTRODUCTION

In the previous chapter, we examined the behavior of single speakers from a minimum variance perspective. The rectangular aspect ratio shape was shown to be the most representative rendering and will serve as our building block for the next step: the combination of multiple speakers into arrays. In this chapter, we will expand the range of minimum variance behavior both spatially and spectrally beyond the single-speaker response. We will see that the combined response will be the sum of its parts, so our time learning the single-speaker shape has been well spent.
