Acquisition. Acquiring goods or services by contract. In the federal government, acquisition begins with the identification of a government requirement that is expected to be satisfied through the contracting process.

Acquisition cycle. FAR Part 7 lists “milestones for the acquisition cycle” that begin with acquisition plan approval and end with contract award. However, this term is sometimes also used to describe events that begin with identification of the government requirement and end with contract award or delivery of the product or service.
