CHAPTER 41AWARDING TASK ORDER CONTRACTS

Before 1994, the government had for many years used indefinite delivery contracts almost solely for supplies. Under this mechanism, the government could execute a contract with a supplier and issue delivery orders against the contract as supplies were needed. Three types of indefinite delivery contracts were permitted:

  • Indefinite delivery/definite quantity (ID/DQ) contracts. A contract was written for a specific quantity (such as 20 tons of gravel) to be delivered in smaller increments whenever the government issued a delivery order.
