What Is Sourcing to Support the Green Initiative?
Introduction
This chapter begins with defining “sourcing for the green initiative.” This definition has its foundation in environmental purchasing (EP). Environmental purchasing and each of its elements will be defined and discussed. The EP definition will then be adapted to encompass the role of purchasing and the supply chain in green sourcing initiatives. The lifecycle concept, also known as a cradle-to-cradle perspective, is included in this chapter to provide a better understanding of how environmental management should be viewed over the entire product lifecycle.
