Using ODBCDirect and the Remote Data Object
ODBCDirect is a simplified interface to the RDO. Version 1.0 of the 32-bit (only) RDO was introduced with Visual Basic 4.0 and was included only in the Enterprise Edition. The objective of RDO was to provide a means of using ODBC to connect to client/server RDBMSs without incurring the overhead of the Jet database engine. RDO provides faster processing of SQL pass-through queries, especially for INSERT and UPDATE operations that involve many records.
