How to Manage Files

In Windows 95, every file, program, shortcut, drive, and folder has a corresponding icon. To move, copy, delete, and otherwise organize icons, you open one or more windows showing the contents of a drive or folder and then drag the icons from place to place. To display the contents of a drive or folder, choose from two basic types of windows. Although they look different, both are actually variations of the Windows Explorer.

Note

In this chapter (and throughout this book), we assume that you've installed the Windows Desktop Update included with IE4. That update replaces the original Windows Explorer with the newer IE4 version shown here.

For the simplest view of drives and folders, right-click My Computer and choose Open ...
