Removing the Windows Desktop Update

It's easy to remove the Windows Desktop Update without uninstalling the Internet Explorer 4.0 web browser. When you remove the Windows Desktop Update component, the following changes take place to the Windows interface:

  • The taskbar and Start menu revert to the design introduced with the original version of Windows 95. There's no Quick Launch toolbar, and you must open the Start menu folder to move or edit program shortcuts—you can't directly edit these items.

  • Active Desktop options are no longer available, and the Web tab and other enhancements to the Display Properties dialog box are also missing.
