Creating a New Master Document and Subdocuments
In this section, you'll learn how to create a master document from scratch, by building an outline and dividing your document into subdocuments.
Note
A master document is simply a document that contains subdocuments, so adding subdocuments to any document transforms it into a master document.
Start by opening a blank document and clicking the Outline View button on the status bar (or choosing View, Outline). Word switches into Outline view, and displays the Outlining toolbar, which includes both outlining tools and master document tools.
