Now that you've gotten familiar with the interface, learned how to create new drawings, how to open existing ones, and how to set up a drawing, let's look at some of the more specific AutoCAD features that have an overall effect on multiple objects, starting first with layers.
Imagine a stack of thin glass sheets that could individually be drawn on. Each sheet, or layer, would be the same size so that the sides could easily be aligned with each other. When you looked straight down through the stack of glass layers, you would be able to see everything that was drawn on each layer.
