Dimensioning Basics

In the dim and distant days of early AutoCAD, dimensioning was one of the most troublesome aspects of the application. There was a host of cryptic dimension variables to memorize, tricky calculations, constant switching of settings, and arcane command-line functions. Most users never managed to master more than a few of the variables involved, if at all. Since AutoCAD R11—which introduced the concept of dimension styles—the handling of dimensioning has improved with each subsequent release, culminating in the AutoCAD 2000 Dimension Style Manager. With this new interface, and with the excellent addition of the Quick Dimension command, dimensioning has become an almost enjoyable experience.
