Other XML Specifications
One of the overwhelming things you discover when you start delving into the world of XML is that there are so many different specifications related to XML. So far, everything you have seen is from the original XML specification. There are a number of extensions to XML that deal with various ways to manipulate and describe XML documents.
Although the core of XML is fairly stable, there have been new standards arising to address some of the holes that the original XML specification doesn't cover. The W3C (the XML/HTML standards body) has been slow to approve some of the recent standards. Some of the standards listed here might not be fully approved as you read this.
