Although some industries have managed to create standard XML schemas for data exchange, many others still use ad hoc formats. One of the difficulties in dealing with different formats is that you aren’t always in a position to dictate a format. Sometimes you work for a small company that receives data from many large customers. Although some customers might agree to use your schema, others have their own schemas and don’t want to change.
