What Is LILO?

LILO is a general-purpose boot loader package used on most modern Linux systems. With it, you can specify any number of installed operating systems to boot. You can also pass behavior-altering parameters to the Linux kernel. When you first start a system with LILO installed, you can enter such parameters or options and specify an operating system to load. You also can specify different partitions from which you want to boot your system.

The term LILO is derived from the first two letters of the words Linux Loader (LInux LOader).
