GRUB

Starting with OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4, Caldera has been using GRUB. While both LILO and GRUB continue to be installed, GRUB is the preferred boot loader by OpenLinux.

You can easily tell whether your system is using GRUB instead of LILO, because during bootup, you'll see the telltale "stage 1 stage 2" printed on your screen just before the graphical boot process starts.

This section of the chapter will not fill you in on all the details of GRUB, because as of this writing, a number of things are changing. The basics are expected to remain, but you may see differences in the various files and particularly in GRUB capabilities as this boot loader evolves.
