Dual Booting

In addition to providing the means for booting a Linux kernel, LILO offers the added bonus of being capable of managing the booting of other, non-Linux operating systems and of booting multiple versions of the same operating system. You might find yourself in a position in which you need to compile a customized version of the Linux kernel; using LILO, you can set up your old kernel to be booted in case the new one doesn't work for some reason.

It's actually quite easy to configure LILO to manage the boot process of other images. The most common occurrence of a dual booting situation is that of Linux and an operating system that comes preloaded on a PC. The steps for preparing such a system for Linux are as follows:
