BIND Files
Each distribution tends to go their own way to some extent with the BIND files. All will have a named.conf in /etc, and they will also have startup scripts.
Caldera OpenLinux
The BIND v8 that comes on OpenLinux installs a number of files. First, a file called named is installed in /etc/sysconfig/daemons; COAS uses this to configure named for startup at boot. A named script is installed in /etc/rc.d/init.d, which has links for startup from runlevels 3–5.
Finally, in /usr/sbin, four files—named, named-boot, named-xfer, and ndc—are installed. These are the name server daemon, a Perl script to convert named.boot to named.conf, an external zone file transfer program, and a name server daemon control program, respectively.
