It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Encryption
You need to know about installing and configuring OpenSSH and Webmin to accomplish remote system administration securely. You will want to be able to remotely administer any system you aren't sitting in front of all the time without sending information in the clear. Although usernames are not a concern, sending passwords unencrypted over any network will allow anyone connected to that network to see your password. All that person would have to do is use a program that captures traffic as it goes by.
