“Tips” Web Part
When you install SharePoint Portal Server, it automatically creates a workspace for you with a default dashboard. This dashboard is basic, and you can take it as a starting point and customize it based on your needs. For example, SharePoint provides two Web Parts for News and Announcements out-of-the-box; by default these Web Parts show the five most recent News or Announcements that you define in the Portal Content under the News and Announcements folders. In this example, I want to create a Web Part similar to the functionality of those two Web Parts that has a list of the five most recent Tips.
