GNOMEs
The objective for developing GNOME was to enable user-friendly applications, easy access to global information, and an easy-to-use desktop. It is designed to help users locate information and launch applications easily.

GNOME runs on many Unix platforms, including Solaris.
GNOME has three major components: desktop, development platform, and office. The GNOME desktop contains a windows-based environment for users. The GNOME development platform provides tools that enable users to develop powerful applications on Unix. The GNOME office contains office productivity tools, such as word processing tools, spreadsheet programs, presentation tools, a Web browser, and an email program.
