LP Print Service

At the very heart of the Solaris Print Service lies a set of commands, utilities, and programs collectively known as the LP Print Service. Apart from several command line utilities, the LP Print Service includes the Print Manager, which provides a GUI to manage print and spooling services. Some of the tasks the LP Print Service performs include scheduling local requests and client print requests, filtering data contained in a request, activating print programs, tracking print jobs, and firing alerts to notify users about problems or the need for new printer accessories. To implement these features, the LP Print Service provides vital components such as the following:

  • User commands

  • Administrative commands

  • Configuration files

  • LP daemons ...
