TCP/IP—An Overview
TCP/IP is a protocol suite that enables the connection of different networks designed by different vendors into a network. It was designed to create a network of networks and deliver services such as remote logon, email, file transfer, and so on. Being a standard suite of protocols, TCP/IP is used across various operating systems and networks. TCP/IP is a standard protocol for the Internet. TCP/IP protocol can be used to connect several computers to constitute a Local Area Network (LAN), with several LANS connecting together to form Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) or Wide Area Networks (WANs).
