Addressing
Addressing is the process of assigning addresses to the hosts on a network. Apart from assigning addresses to the hosts, every network must be identified by a unique address. Communication between computers can happen only if each and every computer on the network is uniquely identified by an address. There are two types of addresses that can be assigned to a computer on a network—the physical or hardware address and the logical or Internet Protocol (IP) address. There are a few rules that are used to assign addresses to the hosts and networks. These rules form the IP addressing scheme.
