The exchange of data in the world of computers primarily involves two computers that send and receive data to and from each other. This data exchange can happen as a one-time send operation or a simultaneous exchange of data. In either case, the Transport layer protocols such as TCP and UDP, specified by the TCP/IP reference model, come into the picture. TCP is used to transfer IP datagrams among host computers.
