Domain Name System (DNS) enables users to provide descriptive names to identify and access a computer on a network. DNS is a distributed database that contains the details about the mapping between the host names and the corresponding IP addresses. For easy administration of host names or computer names, a standard is followed when creating host names and domain names. This standard is called the domain name hierarchy.
