BOOTP Performance
Loading the configuration information from the BOOTP server is done in two phases: obtaining the path to the boot file (the file containing configuration information) and obtaining the boot file itself. BOOTP is used to carry out the first phase. This phase involves obtaining the IP addresses of the server and client and the path to the boot file containing other configuration information. The second phase, which involves a file transfer, can be carried out by using protocols such as trivial file transfer protocol (TFTP), file transfer protocol (FTP), or simple file transfer protocol (SFTP).
