8.1 Introduction
The Axial flux motors generally are called as disc type motors or pan cake type motors, has compact construction and high power density.
The earliest electrical machines were axial flux motors with the first prototype built by Michael Faraday in 1831.
It has a large diameter compared to stack length ratio compared to radial flux motor (most widely used electric motors in industrial applications).
