8.1. Implement Availability Solutions

Any availability solution must provide for both hardware availability and data availability. One is not a replacement for the other any more than a database backup is a replacement for an effective availability strategy. A complete discussion of hardware strategies is beyond the scope of this book, but you should consider hardware-based availability as an important component of any availability architecture.
