Data Mining And The Data Mining Models are new features of Analysis Services with the Analysis Services 2000 release. Data mining technology analyzes data in relational databases and OLAP cubes to discover information of interest to users who cannot be intuitively or easily extracted from either a relational database or a data analysis cube.

Data mining is deducing knowledge by examining data. It can be thought of in this way:

“Knowledge” = behavior patterns, clusters of data with common attributes, behavior decision trees, or association rules.
