Lighting design, just as with many other professions, is rarely completed by a single individual. In reality, there are a number of different specialists connected to a lighting department and overall project. In a typical entertainment situation, a director will be in charge of the overall vision of a production while design specialists are secured to design the specialty areas of scenic, costume, sound, and lighting design. A lighting designer designs the lighting. In the construction industry, a project is usually under the control of an architect or client, and specialists are brought in to design or specify each of a building’s systems (HVAC or Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning, mechanical ...
