Communicating in Projects

Right at the start of this book, we stated that all projects benefit from a structured stakeholder engagement, but that the form of the engagement varies according to the nature of the project. Communication is the core element of stakeholder engagement in projects. All projects, even the smallest stakeholder-neutral project, depend on some form of communication, as no project can exist in complete isolation from its stakeholders.

This chapter starts with the importance of communication planning, drawing upon findings presented in the Project Management Institute’s Pulse of the Profession reports, and ends with the examination of barriers and common sources of errors in communication.
