Inserting Functions

Calc provides you with a choice of methods for inserting functions into your spreadsheets. The first choice is to specify that you are going to place a function in a cell by typing = and then typing the function name followed by the appropriate cell references. This requires that you know the function's name and are extremely comfortable with how the cell references needed by the function are actually specified in the function itself.

Two other methods of inserting functions that make it generally easier to use functions and also provide you with some help in deciphering how cell references are to be placed in functions are the Function List and the Function AutoPilot. Let's take a look at these two features.
