7. Year One of Heroku

Heroku (www.heroku.com) is an online service that allows developers to deploy, manage, and scale applications in the cloud (Figure 7-1). It was founded by Adam Wiggins, Orion Henry, and James Lindenbaum. In December 2010, when it was acquired by Salesforce for $212 million, it had about 100,000 customers.
