Chapter 2. Overview of the Analytics Pane
In Chapter 1, I mentioned that implementing statistics into your work can be intimidating at first. Most developers think they have to master R and Python to effectively run statistical analysis on their data. While I do suggest picking up those skills (and cover briefly in later chapters of this book), I think the best place to start is directly within Tableau Desktop.
In this chapter, I will be introducing you to the Analytics pane in Tableau Desktop. The Analytics pane is a resource within Tableau that allows you to implement different statistical models to your work by simply dragging them into your view. I will show you the three sections available in the Analytics pane and go into all the available options in detail.
What Is the Analytics Pane?
Tableau Desktop makes bringing data visualization and statistics together extremely easy for you because it has incorporated statistical modeling directly in the tool. You can find these options accessible in the Analytics pane.
Accessing the Analytics pane in Tableau Desktop is pretty straightforward. From the authoring interface, navigate to the top left and you will find a toggle from the Data pane to the Analytics pane, which I have highlighted in Figure 2-1.
By clicking on Analytics from the toggle selection, the Data pane will switch to the Analytics pane, shown in Figure 2-2.
