Abstract
This chapter introduces an overview of statistical applications to transportation engineering. It gives an introductory idea on various aspects of statistics such as discrete and continuous functions, distributions describing randomness, and data organization. It also covers some of the aspects under common statistical estimators such as measure of central tendency, measure of dispersion. Further it gives an insight application of normal distribution, confidence bounds, sample size determinations, random variable summation, binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, testing of hypothesis, and other aspects.
