The right side of Figure 4.2 shows a bar chart derived from the same data. To make this bar chart, we truncated the package weights to two digits, keeping only the integer weights and discarding any fraction of a gram. The bar chart describes the resulting ordinal variable.

The two descriptions of these data are clearly similar. Both show a peak (mode) around 50 grams, for instance. The differences, however, are important. The bars in the bar chart are not placed next to each other ...
