Appendix 7.2 Using JMP for Hypothesis Testing

Stacking Data

In order to use JMP for hypothesis testing, you first need to make sure that the data are organized with the numerical variable of interest in one column and the categorical variable that defines the groups in a different column. If the data are organized with each group in a different column, you need to reorganize the data in a stacked format with the numerical variable of interest in one column and the categorical variable that defines the groups in a different column.

To illustrate how to stack data, open the LUGGAGE.JMP file. Select TablesStack. Then, in the Stack dialog box (see Figure A7.13):
